Photonic sweden

PhotonicSweden (PS) is the Swedish Photonics Platform. It is a nonprofit association.  It was founded in 2011, and currently has about 120 personal members and over 50 company members’ inclusive universities and research institutes. 

As a voice for Swedish photonics towards the public, the government and foreign and European organizations, PS is continuously increasing the collaboration between photonics industry, academia, and institutes by organising events for students and pupils with industry and universities. PS organises and contributes to events like open houses (research Friday), job days, matchmaking for jobseekers and companies, hands on experiment exhibitions and conferences with sessions from academia and industry. With this engagement, PhotonicSweden tries to contribute to a better skills supply in the field of photonics. 

Since 2011, PS has been a partner in 10 photonics EU-projects, PS organizes “Optics and Photonics in Sweden”, a yearly conference with international participation from academia and industry including an exhibition, “Optopubs” (~ 8-12 x per year) including seminars, in Stockholm, Lund, and Gothenburg, and Workshops for SMEs. In 2017, PhotonicSweden together with Photonics Finland started the Nordic Photonics Forum Meeting gathering the Nordic and Baltic countries together to promote collaboration in photonics. This meeting is normally arranged every year in conjunction with Swedish and Finnish conferences and Photonics21 Annual meetings. 

PhotonicSweden is exploring photonics integration across all major technology platforms, working with partners and end-users across a wide range of industries to improve cross-platform capability, reliability, yield, and to reduce costs. The main task is combining industrial digitisation with photonics, as a Key Enabling Technology, to strengthen the Swedish scientific and technological bases and to boost Sweden’s innovation capacity, competitiveness, and jobs. 

PS is arranging workshops for end-users for photonics and non-photonics industry and photonics experts exchange and other B2B meetings. 

In the framework of PhotonicSweden’s yearly conference an exhibition for industry is organized where companies can show their latest R&D. Moreover, all exhibiting companies (approximately 30) present pitch talks to promote their latest technology in front of the whole conference. This is also an established forum for Nordic companies to meet and network.
